What to wear
Dress for comfort and for getting a little wet. These all work well:
- Swimwear, quick-dry shorts and shirts, or a rash guard.
- In cooler weather, a windbreaker or hoodie is perfect.
- Jeans are not ideal, because they stay wet and heavy if they get splashed.
Footwear
Many people kayak barefoot and leave their shoes at the launch. Water shoes, flip flops or sandals are fine too. We launch straight from the beach into shallow water.
What to bring
- Water to stay hydrated.
- A towel, and maybe dry clothes for after.
- A waterproof case or floating strap if you want to bring your phone for photos (see below).
Paddles, life jackets, dip nets, a safety whistle and lights are all provided and included in your ticket. The kayak and the LED lighting are included too.
What to leave behind
Please leave valuables and anything that cannot get wet or sink in your car or at home: wallets, keys, jewelry, and non-waterproof cameras.
Phones: you can bring one, but entirely at your own risk. You are in a clear kayak on the water, and things do go overboard. If you want photos, a waterproof case or a floating strap is a very good idea.
Before you go
- Arrive 15 minutes before your launch time. See directions and parking at Overlook Park.
- There are no restrooms at the launch.
- Kids ages 3 and up are welcome, and kids 5 and under ride free with a paying adult. Read more about bringing kids.
